Shooting Food With Your Phone

Here are a few tried and true tips for shooting food with your phone. Most of these tips can be applied to non-edible items as well, we’re just using food as an example here.

1. Bring your subject near a window

2. Add props - napkin, flatware, drink, maybe even ingredients

3. Choose your angle - front, 45 degrees, or overhead (overhead looks best with phone photography)

4. Clean your surfaces, plates, etc. Food photos can easily look gross!

5. Use the grid lines to help with your composition (rule of thirds)

6. Align the yellow & white crosshairs to make sure that your phone is level

7. Tap on your subject to focus, hold your finger down to lock focus, and then if you need to adjust the brightness, drag your finger up or down on screen… and then shoot!
